Buttons

Will the threads of our lives begin to unravel once the secrets we have buttoned up are revealed.

Two very different women are making a journey to a button shop. Marian is attempting a rare solo visit to town for buttons for a reluctantly knitted cardigan. Katie is running late for her first day selling buttons, distracted by her hunger pangs and uncertain future plans. Marian reflects on being ostracised by her daughters after a long buried family secret has come to light. Katie, between flights of fancy, is trying not think about the real dreaded reason for her tummy troubles. When the two women meet, they are unaware that their lives are more closely knitted together than they think, as they reflect on motherhood and difficult choices and how some secrets never stay shuttered; all the time looking for the perfect buttons to hold things together.

A story about mothers and daughters, craft and creation, secrets and desires.
