Galway Festival Radio is a daily radio show, to be broadcast on Flirt FM 101.3 around Galway and worldwide on www.flirtfm.ie , from 15th to 26th July 2013.
The Galway Arts Festival, Film Fleadh and two different fringe festivals all take place every July captivating the people and the city of Galway annually for over 30 years. Galway Festival Radio will help bring the essence and the joy of the Galway Festivals to Co. Galway and beyond and thereby broadening the festival audience allowing Arts & Culture to access harder to reach areas, as well serving as a gateway to the young, old, infirm and isolated people who may not be able to attend such events in person.
The Galway Arts Festival is synonymous with top class international talent, but as well as featuring well known and established acts we will also be focusing on the local and less known artists to help to increase their visibility. Exposing our volunteers to artist and media professionals of this level and calibre will greatly increase their skillset and confidence.
The hour long show will feature the main festivals in Galway; The Galway Arts Festival, The Galway Fringe Festival, The Galway Film Fleadh and The Colours Fringe Festival; with previews and reviews of shows and exhibitions, interviews with performers, artists and directors; plus a flavour of the atmosphere of street theatre and the buzz among the festival going public.
Every day at 2pm and again at 7pm, our show will tell listeners what to expect from festivals that day, let them know what they might have missed and give them an insight into the artistic process from the artists themselves, and tap into the fun element of the festivals that makes July in the Galway so special.
Our team of over 20 volunteers are donating their time and experience free of charge, but we still need to purchase equipment to record, edit and broadcast a radio show to a professional standard, as well as cover costs such as transport, overheads, insurance and to provide other essentials for our hard working team of volunteers.
You can help out the team by pledging to the fund it campaign here.
