Alan Meaney: Audio Producer, Sound Artist & Arts Educator

I started out on radio at age 16 and absolutely loved it, so I wanted to explore this passion in my work. I have worked for radio stations, including Athlone Community Radio, Flirt FM, RTE Jr and RTE Documentary on One and freelance for over ten years. I am based in Galway in the West of Ireland and I also work remotely.

One of the best parts of my job is collaborating with people. I enjoy working closely with them to translate their ideas into engaging audio, whether it’s tracing Tom Crean’s footsteps or recording poets in unique soundscapes.

I have years of experience in making radio, podcasts, sound art and as a media trainer. I won bronze for radio drama at the Irish Radio Awards 2018 (IMRO) and have been shortlisted for seven European Radio Drama awards and for the Headline Mental Health Media Awards. My work has been broadcast on RTÉ, Newstalk, Resonance FM (UK), DW (Germany) and various commercial and community stations.

I am the series producer of Witness with Siobhán Garrigan, every Friday night at 10pm on RTÉ Radio 1.

I foster socially engaged training, that brings a sense of inclusion and uplifts the communities and individuals I work with, through trust, empathy and genuine connection. By bringing a human-centred approach to my workshops and educational programmes, I provide tools for people to tell their own story and shine a light on issues that matter.

I have worked with schools, teachers and students to develop artistic programmes involving sound education and sound art practice.
